Her original name is Priyanka and also known as Amoha. Having born in Kolkata she is proficient in English, Bengali and Hindi. She moved to New Delhi when she was in the 10th standard and it was followed by her degree in Chemistry from the Delhi University.

Before making her debut in the film industry she was apparently a model and did her first movie "Jay Jay" in the Tamil film industry where Nisha Kothari is popularly known as 'Amoha' with Madhavan and Pooja. But thus was the result of her aggressive intention to work in the films. When actor Madhavan came for a Pepsi ad to Mumbai she just went to him and showed him her photos and the actor was very impressed with her and immediately called his South Indian director and asked him to put her for audition.

The fame in the first film made her to act in a Telugu movie. But it was her desire to work in Bollywood that attained the supreme attention. In Bollywood the credit goes to Ram Gopal Varma who discovered and introduced her into the Hindi film industry. It were the two films, Sarkar followed by James that gave her good popularity. Nisha Kothari also acted with Emraan Hashmi in The Killer.
